THE CALL FOR JUSTICE :

Finally, "at the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world was sleeping India awoke to life and freedom for the 78th time. A very happy Independence Day to all my readers and my lovely audience. This Independence Day might not be joyous for everyone because of 1 heartbreaking news in our city which has made people question the actual meaning of freedom.

Our religious texts say that :

"Asatoma Sad-Gamaya , Tamaso Maa Jyotir-Gamaya ,Mrytyor-Maa Amritam Gamaya ,Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantihi ,Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantihi . " These lines from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad mean: Lead me from the untruth to the Truth. Lead me from darkness to light. Lead me from death to immortality Om Peace Peace Peace.

In this kali yuga, we are moving towards the darkness of life day by day as predicted by lord Krishna by his shlokas "sahasra-yuga-paryantam ahar yad brahmana viduh ratrim yuga-sahasrantam te 'ho-ratra-vido janah". This shloka from chapter 8 verse 17 of the Bhagavad Gita says, " By human calculation, a thousand ages taken together is the duration of Brahma's one day. And such also is the duration of his night." and deeply speaks that, " The duration of the material universe is limited. It is manifested in cycles of kalpas. A kalpa is a day of Brahma, and one day of Brahma consists of a thousand cycles of four yugas or ages: Satya, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali. The cycle of Satya is characterized by virtue, wisdom and religion, there being practically no ignorance and vice, and the yuga lasts 1,728,000 years. In the Treta-yuga vice is introduced, and this yuga lasts 1,296,000 years. In the Dvapara-yuga there is an even greater decline in virtue and religion, vice increasing, and this yuga lasts 864,000 years. And finally, in Kali-yuga (the yuga we have now been experiencing over the past 5,000 years), there is an abundance of strife, ignorance, irreligion and vice, true virtue being practically nonexistent, and this yuga lasts 432,000 years. In Kali-yuga vice increases to such a point that at the termination of the yuga the Supreme Lord Himself appears as the Kalki avatar, vanquishes the demons, and saves his devotees.

Among many inter and intranational disputes, like the Israel-Palestine conflict, the Russia-Ukraine war, the riots in Bangladesh due to reservations etc, a major event has been seen in India. On the peaceful eve of 9th August 2024, Dr Moumita Debnath, a second-year postgraduate trainee (PGT) doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, was found dead in a seminar hall on the college campus.

On the same day, friends of Dr. Debnath reported to the college faculties that their friend was missing. At 11:30 a.m. the trainee doctor's body was discovered in one of the college's seminar rooms in a semi-nude state with her eyes, mouth and genitals bleeding. She was later declared dead. An autopsy revealed that she had been raped and sexually assaulted and was later throttled to death, with her thyroid cartilage broken due to the strangulation. her parents described the condition of her late daughter after seeing her dead body in this manner, " “After three hours, they(college faculty) allowed the father to go inside and see her body. He was only allowed to click a picture, he showed us(the press) when he came outside. She had no clothes on her body. Her legs were 90 degrees apart... this cannot happen unless the pelvic girdle breaks, which means she was torn apart."

The postmortem report of the trainee doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during her night duty on 9 August, has revealed significant vaginal bleeding and injury marks, bite marks on the neck, injured lips, and significant trauma on the head. The report also showed the presence of 150 mg semen in the hymen, which her parents claim indicates the involvement of more than one individual or gangrape .

After this incident, the principal of RG Kar Medical College Dr Sandeep Ghosh an orthopaedic surgeon, immediately resigned to avoid the humiliation and to escape the situation. He has been labelled as a very sacked person by his former colleagues. He was referred to as a mafia by the ANI newspaper agency as he used to fail his students and ask for 20% more money than usual fees to pass them. He used to provide his students with free alcohol in his guest house. He used to misuse the funds for the development of his college for his benefit. After his resignation, he was made the principal he was made the NRS medical college within 8 hours of resignation but now he is kept on suspension.

The rapist sanjay roy is a 33-year-old civic volunteer of the Calcutta police department. He is also a well-trained boxer who had 4 marriages and none of them lasted. He is currently taken under police custody and is undergoing extreme interrogation.

The TMC government of WB has assured that they shall conduct protests and meetings in every ward, said the CM of West Bengal. But I doubt these so-called "assurances" of the CM. Last night, while the women were busy reclaiming the night, some hooligans of our own TMC government rushed into the RG kar destroying the emergency ward, the seminar hall where Dr Debnath was raped to remove the proofs.

As we celebrate the 78th Independence Day of India, we are reminded of our nation's journey towards justice, equality, and human dignity. Yet, the RG Kar rape case stands as a stark reminder of the urgent need for systemic change in our approach to protecting the vulnerable and ensuring justice.

Independence Day is a moment to reflect on our progress and renew our commitment to the values enshrined in our Constitution. It’s a call to action for each one of us to stand against injustice, advocate for survivors, and work towards a society where every individual is safe and respected.

Let us honour the spirit of independence by addressing the failures highlighted by this case and striving for a future where such violations are met with swift and fair justice. Together, let’s build a nation where freedom means safety and equality for all.
